Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24.09.2026
Electric Crab ("we", "us", "our") is the trading name of Phillip Davis. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use this site or make a purchase. We are the data controller of your information under UK data protection law.
Information we collect
- Contact details (name, address, email, phone)
- Order and payment information (processed securely via Shopify Payments; we don't store your full card details)
- Communications you send us
- Device and usage data (via cookies and similar technologies)
How we use it
- To process and fulfil your orders, returns, and customer service requests
- To maintain accurate records and comply with legal/tax obligations
- To send you marketing only where you've opted in, or where you're an existing customer being told about similar products (in line with UK PECR); you can unsubscribe at any time
- To keep the site secure and prevent fraud
Lawful basis
- Processing your orders, returns and customer service relies on performance of a contract
- Keeping order and tax records relies on legal obligation
- Site security and fraud prevention rely on legitimate interests
- The Meta Pixel and our marketing emails rely on consent, which you can withdraw at any time
Sharing your information
We share data only where necessary: with Shopify (our platform provider), payment processors, and delivery couriers (Royal Mail/Evri) to fulfil your order; and with Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd for advertising measurement, only where you have consented. We don't sell your personal data to third parties.
Cookies and the Meta Pixel
With your consent only, we use the Meta Pixel (provided by Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd) to measure site visits and improve our advertising on Facebook and Instagram. When enabled it sends Meta the pages you view, your browser and device details, IP address, and Meta cookie identifiers. Nothing is loaded until you choose "Accept" on our cookie banner.
Where you accept marketing cookies at checkout, our Shopify checkout (checkout.electriccrab.co.uk) separately shares purchase events with Meta through the Conversions API. These events include the order value, the products purchased, and contact details such as your email address and phone number, which are hashed (scrambled) before they are sent so Meta can match purchases to ads without us exposing your details. For this data collection Meta acts as a joint controller with us, and you can read how Meta handles this information in Meta's privacy policy.
We store your choice, the date it was made and the version of the notice shown in your browser. You can withdraw or change your choice at any time using "Cookie settings" in the site footer; tracking stops immediately. You can also manage ad preferences in your Meta account settings.
International transfers
Shopify and Meta may process data outside the UK. Where this happens, appropriate safeguards (such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum) are used to protect your information.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or request a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these, contact us using the details below.
Data retention
- Order, invoice and tax records are kept for 6 years to meet HMRC requirements
- Customer service messages are kept for up to 2 years
- Cookie consent records are kept for 12 months

Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Children
Our Services aren't intended for children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time; the current version will always be posted here.
